What's next...
Last week, we outlined the high school reductions that the approximately $4 million budget reduction for the ETCSD for the 2026-27 school year will have on the high school.
These positions include:
- .6 HS Math position eliminated and AVID programming reduced
- 1.0 Alternative Education position eliminated
- Study hall para professional and district-wide copying position eliminated
- 1.0 HS/MS Spanish/AVID position eliminated
- 1.0 HS Computer Science Position (currently vacant)
- 1.0 HS Transition Coordinator (currently vacant)
- Reduction in HS Art from 1.0 to .6
This week, staff worked on creating sections and numbers for next year with the reduced staff. The reductions mean that class sizes will be larger in areas impacted, a reduction in course offerings/sections, and the potential of using online platforms, Start College Now/Early College Credit (technical school and 4-year college) offerings to meet the needs of programming requests. An example of this would include Computer Science. Next year, we plan to offer at least 1-2 computer science courses in-person at ETHS, and the rest of the course offerings would be through online platforms and/or through technical colleges or 4-year colleges.
More specifics regarding schedules and course offerings will be released in the coming weeks once the matrix (entire school schedule) is finalized for next year.
Lastly, as I said last week, these reductions are not easy and/or ideal; however, we will still provide a quality product for our students. If you have specific questions, feel free to reach out.
Respectfully,
Stacey Kuehn
