East Troy High School, with our Career and Technical Education teachers and Mrs. Jinnesa Pluess, our CTE and Youth Apprenticeship Coordinator, held the first Trojan Career Lunch last Friday. In attendance were 22 local representatives from the 14 career pathways, who discussed their careers with all juniors. Students were also able to experience the happenings of a "business lunch". The luncheon provided students with the opportunity to learn from community partners who are working in their field of interest. Thank you to The Venue for hosting the luncheon. This event was paid for through our ACT 59 Grant provided by the State of Wisconsin.

The Jim Byrnes Memorial Park Coming Attractions!
Town of East Troy Supervisor Barbara Church’s reached out to ETHS wondering if the Construction class could build a giant Adirondack-type Bench be a feature at the Jim Byrnes Memorial Park (JBMP) in East Troy.
In the months that followed, Michael Hoff, our Tech Ed teacher, and his students began to work on the collaborative project . Mr. Hoff encouraged three students: Trinity Anderson, Novana DeBord and Kaden Friemoth to parttake in this project. Using the internet plans, Hoff guided the students to craft the piece of furniture that would bring a unique sense of
identity to the JBMP. Additionally, the students would become part of a very
visual project. Church and Park Committee member Ken Zess knew this project
would generate a great source of pride for the students. “This chair allows the
students and the East Troy High School to have a greater connection to the Town
of East Troy,” said Church.
“Building this chair was a very cool experience and I learned a lot from this
project,” said DeBoard. “I am very grateful and appreciative that I was chosen to
help make such a big project for the community, and I’m really happy that I can bring the community together and make the Town feel more like home. I’m very excited to see how everyone reacts and I hope you guys enjoy this as much as we did making it.”
The students used wood purchased from East Troy Lumber to build the chair, and wood provided by Mr. Hoff was used in the ETHS Fab Lab to make the plaques that will identify the JBMP and the East Troy High School.
Other JBMP collaborative projects have involved ETHS Ryan Holle’s
landscaping classes and Cub Scout Pack 17.
Every spring Holle’s students upgrade
the mulch and improve the hosta garden and entrance of the park. Additionally,
the Cub Scout Pack 17 has built unique bird houses which line the walking paths
throughout the park.
All of the collaborative projects have increased the beauty of the JBMP.

Those who live in the East Troy Community School District will be asked on April 7 to vote on a referendum that would allow the district to exceed the revenue limit by $4 million per year for three years for operational expenses. As families invested in the East Troy Community Schools, we want you to be informed of the possible implications of this referendum.
If the referendum were to be approved by voters on April 7, East Troy High School will be able to maintain staffing and programming, ensuring our students continue to receive the supports and services that has lead to:
- Over 40 Youth Apprentices, who are gaining real-world work experience in a variety of trades and pathways.
- Over 80% of students taking AP exams earning a 3 or higher and leading to college credit.
- The highest state report card score in the Rock Valley Conference.
- 25 Transcripted Credit classes that earn ETHS students transferable college credit for free.
- Athletic opportunities and achievement including two conference championship titles, 11 individual athletes qualifying for state in their respective sports–including a state champion wrestler, and the wrestling team advanced to the team state meet in this year alone.
If the referendum is not approved by voters, the district anticipates reducing approximately 25 full-time equivalent positions in addition to other reductions. At East Troy High School, this will mean:
- Reduced electives and offerings (Advanced Placement, Transcripted Credit, Career and Technical Education, Art, Music)
- Reduced capacity to meet student needs in pupil services and intervention
- Increased scheduling conflicts for students due to reductions in staff
- Outdated curriculum materials
