Some students participate in small group counseling. Groups allow students to interact with and support their peers who may be experiencing similar feelings or situations. The goal of small group is to enhance and develop students' coping skills. These groups are confidential in nature and offerings may vary year to year, based on student needs. Counseling groups offered throughout the school year may include:
-
New Students

The counselor works one-on-one with a student to help resolve problems and developmental concerns, enhance decision-making skills, and/or build coping skills. The goal of individual counseling is to remove barriers that may be getting in the way of a student being the best learner that he/she can be. This counseling is conducted in a confidential setting and is a short-term, solution-focused and limited intervention.
The counselor is unable to provide therapy. If additional resources are needed, please contact the school counselor to obtain contact information for community counseling agencies.

April should be a great month for learning about the importance of caring for ourselves, others, our community and our world. East Troy elementary schools are working hard to educate students about the importance of caring for others. Activities may include:
- “Wear a Hat Day” each Friday in April. Students and staff may donate $.50 (or what he/she can contribute) and gain the privilege to wear a cap or hat for the day. Money will be donated to the East Troy Family Community Resource Center to help support their programing. Kids will show how they care about their community.
- Classroom Guidance lessons in April will address protective behaviors. April is also Child Abuse Prevention Month. Lessons and conversations will empower students to make good choices and to care about themselves.
- During Earth Day, encourage your child to pick up trash, rake a neighbor’s lawn, or implement a way to conserve water in your home. This will teach your child how to care about our planet.
